John Airo

Artist Joe

John Airo was born in 1971 in Chicago where he still resides as a working artist. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago starting in 1990 but dropped out to "find himself". After a decade and a half (or so) of aimlessly searching in shitty nightclubs, bands, and dysfunctional relationships Airo's journey led him to his calling, which is to create art. Airo focuses most of his energy on painting, using acrylics and pushing the medium from thinned out watercolour techniques to heavy layering to add texture and mimic the richness of oil paint.

Art Examples

Joseph Rade

unnamedJoseph attempts to capture a sense of feeling and emotion even though the subject matter is dark, disturbing and evil. To him that is the beauty and challenge of it keeping the drive burning with every new brushstroke, detail and layer.

“Confronting the dark head on allows you to travel all paths towards light”

Joseph has created and consulted on projects with bands, film directors, writers & other artists for 20+ years. His work was recently published for the first time in Pandaemonium: Devils, Demons & Monsters by Out Of Step Books. He currently resides in Des Plaines with his wife and their energetic pup Zulu.

Kelly Pelka

Kelly D. Pelka is a mixed media artist from Chicago, currently residing in Portland, OR. Inspired by her surroundings, stories and experiences, she uses an installation style format to convey a “timeline” of her work. Themes include matriarchy, immigration, migration, ancestry, borders, history, personal encounters and her mother’s journey from Germany (Polish roots) to America.

From painting to animations to photography, ranging from minimalist to expressionist, her experimental approach to creating is always evolving.

Aside from working as an artist, Kelly D. Pelka is owner of Right-Brained Studio, the art of creative thinking, a mobile youth art studio and gallery.  She is also co-founder of Re-Girl, fashioning apparel and accessories from found and new materials, as well as from custom made fabrics of her art.
